record number of entries for up-and-coming 2009

A record number of 2,950 entries from 60 countries were submitted to the festival by August 1st, the deadline for the 10th up-and-coming International Film Festival Hannover.

 

Trends for the 2009 up-an-coming festival
Once again the entries were extremely varied—they ranged form very short films (45 seconds) to feature-length films (100 minutes)—and spanned every conceivable genre. We also received a large number of documentaries.
Many of the entries came from a new generation of directors without a traditional background in film – for instance, graphic designers or artists working with new media. The very positive response underlines the fact that, despite the spread of online activities, there is still a strong need for ‘real communities’, for the mutual sharing of ideas, and for the reactions and judgements of a live audience and jury.

For the first time we received entries from Costa Rica, Indonesia, Taiwan and Peru. Brazil, with 60 entries, was responsible for the most submissions.
