SPRUNGBRETT – young film makers in collaboration with successful former up-and-coming participants
SPRUNGBRETT is a pilot project that took place to coincide with the 8. up-and-coming International Film Festival Hannover in December 2005.
Numerous former up-and-coming participants are meanwhile highly successful in the film, television and video art industry. Their career began with the help of the up-and-coming talent-spotting contest in Hannover.
We invited four of them to share their biography and cinematic development in a dialogue with the audience during the festival and to present themselves in the form of excerpts from their films.
At the same time, a talent_meeting took place where eight selected film makers presented their future film projects to the four film artists.
Each film artist had chosen two film makers who he advised and assisted during the talent_meetings with regard to planning their future film projects (developing the material, screenwriting, directing, filming, production, post-production).
The objectives of the project are: successful former up-and-coming participants share their experience with newcomers; young film makers benefit from this experience and are motivated to continue with their cinematic work. Moreover, it is a chance for everyone involved to build up relationships and contacts that will be useful for each individual’s future film work.
For young film makers, the up-and-coming Int. Festival Hannover is both a forum where they can present their work to a competent jury as well as a critical audience, and the chance to get that deciding kick to carry on. For many contestants, up-and-coming is also a stepping stone into international careers. Several Bundesfilmpreis (National German Film Award) winners, as well as OSCAR award winners have screened their debut work in Hannover.
SPRUNBRETT was financed with funds from the German National Cultural Foundation, Kulturstiftung des Bundes, and is an up-and-coming initiative.
