Film careers often begin in Hannover

up-and-coming International Film Festival Hannover is being held for the 8. time this year. Until 1. August 2005 young film and video makers had the opportunity to enter their works in the festival. The organisers, who created up-and-coming in 1982 as a private initiative, are pleased about the ever increasing number of participants. Their dynamic and innovative festival project has meanwhile become an important artistic competition for newcomers and maintains a network spanning 56 countries.

Many former participants are highly successful in the film and television industry and new talents discovered by up-and-coming include, for example, four German OSCAR winners.

The additional international program “Wounds and Visions of a Megalopolis” which has been presenting inspiring images of selected cities since 1995, the film-up Livingroom discussion podium, and the SPRUNGBRETT project round off the festival events.

This year and as a result of an initiative by up-and-coming, which is run under the patronage of the German President Horst Köhler, marks the start of a new award for newcomers: the German Young Film Makers Award (FilmKomet 2005) and the International Young Film Makers Award (FilmComet 2005), as well as the special kestnergesellschaft Award “Die Fliegende Kamera”.

The German Young Film Makers Award, besides the existing German Film Award and the German Short Film Award, is to provide the means of already rewarding top talents in the under-27 age group.

So far, there had not been any important prize specifically for the works of young film makers in German film circles.

A jury comprising renowned names will give an award to the three top films in the “Best Director” category. All the films will be screened in the festival’s competition programme which begins at 11 a.m. on 1. December 2005.

Of the 199 films from 32 countries, the jury will choose 7 prize winners. Be part of the audience when the jury announces the prize winners and the award-winning films.

The prize-giving ceremony is taking place on Sunday, 4. December 2005 at 11 a.m. as part of the international up-and-coming film festival at CinemaxX am Raschplatz in Hannover.
